Gallo-Roman Museum
Description
This 15th century Gothic chapel is home to the 'Les Potiers de Portout' exhibition, which uses modern, user-friendly techniques to tell the story of the Gallo-Roman potters who worked along the Canal de Savière in the 5th century A.D.
Come and discover the world of the potters of Portout, who lived on the banks of the Canal de Savière during the first half of the 5th century A.D. Over the course of 3 rooms in a 15th-century Gothic chapel, the museum follows the history, daily life and work of these Gallo-Roman craftsmen, specialists in producing 'céramique luisant' (glazed ceramics). Pottery, currency, jewels, amphora, bones and other common objects will give you a greater insight into their way of life.
