Description

Just over 5 km long, the Grand Colombier Alpine Pastures Loop takes you to the impressive Chanduraz viewpoint (1,260 m), which offers a panoramic view of Lake Bourget and the surrounding mountains.

Hike up high in the Ain mountains.
This moderately difficult trail offers the chance to take in an exceptional panoramic view.
A favorite spot for chamois, the Roche de Chanduraz juts out at the southern tip of the Grand Colombier massif, overlooking the village of Béon and the Marais de Lavours nature reserve. Although the very tip of the Roche is inaccessible, this outcrop offers a remarkable view of Lake Bourget and the surrounding mountains, including the Chartreuse, Vercors, and Bauges massifs, as well as the Belledonne Range.

Follow the initials SA.

While exploring the Grand Colombier alpine pastures, hikers are asked to behave respectfully toward the herds, the shepherds, and the environment.

  • Avoid sudden movements around the herds.
  • Go around the herds if cows are on the trail.
  • Close gates behind you to prevent animals from escaping.
  • Respect the shepherd’s cabin by not trespassing on this private property.
  • Keep your dog on a leash at all times.
  • Leave no trace of your visit, other than your footprints.
  • Do not pick wildflowers.
  • Stay on the marked trails.
