Description

The route brings together the two circuits of "Maisons Fortes" and "Les Belvédères du Rhône" at the hamlet of Ameysin. The length of this hilly itinerary means that it is best suited to more experienced cyclists, but there are no sections requiring you to carry your bike.
From the Maison de la Dent du Chat, take the Chemin des Fossés, which starts at the statue of St. Joseph. You cross the outskirts of Yenne, passing the stadium and then the former Capuchin convent. A short climb along the path soon takes you up to Commugnin, with its fine views over Yenne. The route soon takes you to the plateau of St-Paul-sur-Yenne. The ascent is mainly on small tarmac roads. At the top of the plateau, the undulating route takes you along less technical paths to the foot of the Dent du Chat. At the "Les Tréchauds" sign, turn right in the direction of St-Paul. The landscape is dotted with castles and fortified houses. After the village of St-Paul, the route takes a downhill profile before the "grimpette" before the former residence of Charles Dullin at Le Châtelard (famous theatre-maker). This is followed by a steep descent to the hamlet of Ameysin at the foot of the hill. From the bridge over the Flon, you take small roads to the hamlet of Les Couleurs. The route then climbs steadily up to Chênecourt on a pretty path, before reaching the hamlet of Charosse. At the end of the hamlet, at the "Les Malods" sign, turn right onto a wide track that leads into the forest. After a short descent, you find the GR 9 at the Puits de Bacchus, which takes you northwards. The path is initially wide up to the top of the route, but narrows as it descends slightly and becomes more technical. This section of the GR offers numerous viewpoints over the Rhône plain. Be careful, as this route is very busy with hikers. At Pré Cevin, head for the Croix de Chevru, which you leave on your left in the forest. Short technical section with portage before the two viewpoints over the Rhône and the Pierre Châtel gorge. The final descent to Yenne begins, passing through the hamlets of Chevru and Curtelod before heading straight for the village. Once in Yenne, head for the campsite and return to the start via the banks of the Rhône.
