The Butte Saint-Romain:
A site in the commune of Jongieux, the Butte Saint Romain, which was a surveillance post on the Rhône for the Gauls, and its plateau are a major archaeological site. Finds at St-Romain point to the existence of a Gallo-Roman building from the early Christian era, later replaced by a Christian chapel from the Middle Ages (destroyed during the Revolution). In 1938, a 4th-century stele dedicated to the Gallic god Sylvanus was discovered. It bears a Christian inscription (504) on the reverse, the oldest in Savoie. This stele has been placed in the Musée Lapidaire in Aix-les-Bains. A committee founded in 1990 is behind the construction of the new chapel.
